A pirate in sandals. A treasure that may not exist. Four lucky shovels that weren’t actually lucky at all.

Stan never thought a family road trip could turn him into a real detective. But when his parents buy a used RV, launch a travel vlog, and pull him out of school for a year of “learning in real life,” that’s exactly what happens. It all starts on a beach in Galveston, where the family stops because Texas is a very long drive and it’s getting dark. Nobody is looking for a mystery.

Then a man in a pirate hat claims he has found the lost treasure map of pirate Jean Lafitte. By morning, the whole campground is digging. By lunch, the pirate is gone, Dad is the proud owner of a “lucky” shovel, and Stan has spotted three suspicious words printed in the corner of the map.

Stan thinks that’s the end of it. Until another man tries to sell them something “lucky.” First at a bat bridge in Austin. Then at a cattle drive in Fort Worth. Everywhere they go, a man seems to be nearby selling something “lucky.” Stan is sure it isn’t a coincidence, and the trail is leading his family across Texas.
